Ottawa Cosmetic Injector Nurse Sarah Talks Botox and Beauty Standards

Allure’s Cosmetic Injector Nurse Sarah @beautoxbabe talks about the pull for today’s young adults to keep up with society’s unattainable standards of beauty.

Wrinkles, big lips, defined cheekbones, etc weren’t even something I was aware of until I was 25 years old. I did all the bad things like suntanning with baby oil on my skin, and my skincare consisted of something that would keep me hydrated.
What a different world it is for youth and young adults. All the filtered photos on IG, influencers, and young celebrities like #kyliejenner are setting unrealistic expectations that are not achievable, for the majority of young girls and women.
.
Yes, I am obviously an injector. But my ethics come first. So when it comes to changing the facial appearance of younger clients, I tread very lightly. Personally, I do not treat under 18 year olds- or even consult them. Yes, cosmetic procedures can help overcome some insecurities, but it can also be the beginning of a slippery slope to changing one’s facial appearance. You must fully understand the risks associated with these types of procedures, and while they may look very glamorous and risk-free on IG, there is a level of risk and responsibility to respect. It’s hard enough when we look at celebrity transformations such as the Jenner’s and Kardashian’s and start comparing ourselves.
.
So this is just a reminder to say you’re beautiful how you are. You don’t need lip filler because everyone else is doing it, to make you “beautiful”. No one’s skin is airbrushed in real life.

Do not aim for perfection. Aim for self-love and self-care.
